How a DNS Server Works

DNS is basically a technology which gives a kind of an identity to websites. The full name of this technology is Domain Name System. This technology helps the web user to give names to his or her website on the web and thereby create a unique identity for it on the web.

A DNS server is basically a computer which has willingness to join this Domain Name System. The DNS server would basically have features like an IP address, network names database, other internet hosts addresses. These different computers communicate with each other with the help of private network protocols. These servers are basically organized in a hierarchy and the root servers are the ones which are at the top of the hierarchy.

These root servers have a list of domain names along with the corresponding IP addresses. There are basically thirteen very significant root servers in the world and the majority of them are in the United States while some being in Japan, UK, Sweden, etc.

Web hosting accounts are basically a service which allows the customers to display their websites on the servers that are connected to the interview. These servers have huge space on their hard drive and they allocate this space to customers who want a space on the internet.

Domain name and web hosting accounts are basically the same things with a different name. The kind of services that these too things provide are similar and there is very little or no difference between the two. If you have an existing domain name, then you can probably use that with the web hosting account provided the domain name is there either in the account or at any other registrar. If you have a domain name account with a service provider then you can easily have web hosting account subscribed in that account itself.

All these instructions and steps are pretty easy to follow and if in case you have any doubts, then you can always contact your service provider.
